Welcome
Southern Oregon Martial Arts Academy (located in Medford, Oregon) is dedicated to teaching traditional, ethics based martial arts. The academy's focus is on developing a strong foundation of techniques, principles and values from which students develop discipline and responsibility to prepare them for a leadership role as they progress.
The school is a member of American Budokai International (our parent organization) and our Chief Instructor (Steve Foti) is the Oregon State Representative. The academy teaches Okinawan Karate (The Empty Hand Way) and Japanese Jui Jitsu (The Gentle Art). In addition, we offer a unique Women's Self Defense Program and are an affiliate of Defend University, a research group dedicated to the protection of women. The academy also has a dynamic children's program that includes Safe Kids Stranger Awareness Education.
Our focus on ethics and virtues is taken from two sources: Bushido - The Warrior's Code of Conduct (from Japan) and Chivalry - the Medieval System of Knighthood. Southern Oregon Martial Arts Academy holds to high standards. We do not promote quickly or give rank away. We believe in personal growth, building community and having a good time as we learn and work together. We strive to have a positive impact on others, and take our knowledge to all aspects of life.
